The Louisiana Wing of the Civil Air Patrol is composed of hundreds of civilian volunteers who donate their time and skills to perform missions for America. Formed just prior to World War II, Civil Air Patrol is the Official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. In partnership with 1st Air Force, CAP and its 59,000+ members perform missions in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Louisiana Wing is the 25th largest Wing within CAP, having nearly 600 members in 2010. CAP broadly divides its missions into three areas: Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs.
Whether flying an aerial search mission for a missing hiker, providing aerial photos for damage assessment after a storm, or assisting with the distribution of supplies to disaster victims, CAP's Emergency Services personnel are there.
In less turbulent times CAP serves as a resource for Aerospace Education for local and state educators. CAP provides personnel and information to assist with educational efforts promoting a knowledge of air, space, and aviation, including our TOP Flights Teacher Orientation Program, also known as the Fly A Teacher program.
At all times, CAP also provides leadership, guidance, and a sense of duty and purpose for the young members of our Cadet Programs. Civil Air Patrol Cadets are taught a myriad of skills and life lessons, from how to read a map, to how to motivate and lead a team to accomplish difficult goals. The lessons learned in the Cadet program will stay with a CAP Cadet long after they leave the program, and throughout their life will serve as guideposts to aid them in accomplishing all their future endeavors with integrity, respect, and excellence.
